Fresenius Kabi Australia was established in 2004 from a joint venture between Pharmatel Pty Ltd and Fresenius Kabi. In 2007, Pharmatel Fresenius Kabi became a fully owned subsidiary of Fresenius Kabi and since January 2010 is now Fresenius Kabi Australia Pty Limited.

 

Pharmatel Pty Ltd was founded in 1985 and quickly became a market leader in bowel preparation developing a strong reputation for its high level of services. In 1991 the company commenced compounding aseptic drugs for Australian hospitals, with a focus on oncology products, and a TGA licensed compounding centre was opened in Melbourne, Victoria in 2003.

 

The Hirsch Pharmacy was opened in 1462, and Fresenius Kabi was founded in Germany in 1999 and is now a global organisation dedicated to supplying innovative products and services to hospitalised critically ill patients with staff around the globe. In recent years Fresenius Kabi has opened offices in North America, Canada, Japan, and expanded throughout Asia and South America. Fresenius Kabi is the leader in infusion therapy and clinical nutrition in Europe and in its most important countries of Latin America and Asia Pacific. Within I.V. generic drugs, Fresenius Kabi counts among the leading suppliers in the U.S. market.

 

Fresenius Kabi Australia continues to expand its oncology compounding operations. From the single site in Melbourne, there is now another site in Hornsby, New South Wales as well as in Brisbane, Queensland. The success of the operations that began in Australia has now seen oncology compounding services being rolled into key Asian and European countries. Through the acqusition of two major drug suppliers in India and the US, Fresenius Kabi continues to grow its intravenously administered drug business.
